This started as the seemingly Irish part of the family – which it is by birth of one ancestor but not any more. My mother’s father was born in London with his father born in Dublin but, in turn, his father was born in London.
Here is the Buckley family line back to my great x 2 grandfather – James born 1821.
The 1851 Census shows the Buckley family living in Aldenham Street, Somers Town, St Pancras as:- James (my great, great grandfather – possibly working in a billiard saloon at the time) age 30 born in Knightsbridge, Middlesex; Jane (his wife) age 33 born St Austell, Cornwall; Mary age 8 born Dublin, Ireland; Overton (my great grandfather) age 6 born Dublin, Ireland (giving the family’s Irish connection); James age 5 born St Columb, Cornwall; John age 2 born St Pancras, Middx and Louisa age 3 months born St Pancras, Middx.
I have found only one building in Somers Town (at the corner of Aldenham Street and Eversholt Street) which dates to when this part of the family lived here – St Mary’s church built about 1825:-

My Buckley grandfather – Overton John Buckley was born at No 7 East Ferry Road, Isle of Dogs, Poplar, London. In the 1891 Census the family also lived at No 60.
Here are my discoveries about that part of London, his birthplace and the changes between the late 1800s and the 2020s:- my Buckley grandfather and the Isle of Dogs – discoveries and changes.
Here is a very noticeable change looking up the Thames from the Isle of Dogs direction:-
